Meeting of (some of) the Wajszczuks living in the USA

August 14, 2000

There are several families of Wajszczuks or their descendants and relatives, living on the American continent, scattered from Ontario, (Canada) through Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Indiana, Washington D.C., North Carolina, Arkansas to California. Most take their origin from the Zamosc branch of the Family and arrived on this continent after WWII. Many after deportations to Germany during the war for forced labor, some survived the jailings or concen-tration camps. A few originate from the Podlasie branch or arrived later. There is also a large family who's ancestors arrived in the USA as Wajszczuks at the beginning of the 20th century from a different location in Poland (far north of Trzebieszow in the Podlasie province - near the Bug river). At present their relatives in Poland (with whom we visited last summer) go under the last name of Waszczuk (see paragraph "Family History").  Three of the Wajszczuks live in the Detroit area :Edward (410), John (326) and Waldemar (087). Henry (378) who used to live in Canada and presently lives in Arkansas came last summer to visit his sister Kristine Woodcock (382) "across the river" in Canada. On his way back he and his family stopped in Detroit and a small gathering took place at Edward's house (pictures) and next morning for breakfast at Carmen and Waldemar's house, before they departed for Arkan-sas.
