Dear Elly,
Below is a summary of our search in the National
Archives in Lublin and in the Civil Registry Office (USC) in Dubienka.
1. Dubienka Parish record books were reviewed in
the Archives by Mr. S. Wac for the years 1810 - 1906.
Several entries for the names Buraczynski and
less frequent for the name Martyniuk were found.
The names Soltys and Dybek were not found.
It should be noted that a few books were
missing. (1828, 1829, 1837, 1848, 1868, 1876, 1877, 1898).
Details of the reviev (in Polish) are on a C.D.
- sent separately by mail.
2. He was not able to find the birth record of Stanislaw
Martyniuk (1888?).
There was no record of the name Stanislaw
Martyniuk in the books.
3. During several telephone conversations with the
Director of the Civil Registry Office (USC) in Dubienka, Mrs. Henryka
Adamkiewicz, Mr. Wac has learned that:
a/ there was no mention of the name Dybek in
the books in 1915 (possibly the original last name of Ignacy); No
births
were recorded in Dubienka for the date of
2.X.1915!
Mrs Adamkiewicz requested a certified authorization
from Mrs Leclerc for Mr Wac to conduct further search in the
records of the USC in Dubienka for the years
1907-1945.
b/ subsequent review of all birth record
books (1907-1945) available in the USC did not show the name Dybek and
she
personally does not recall ever encountering
the name Dybek (WJW comment - there is a possibility that Jozefa
Dybek
belonged to a different neighbouring Parish
- see map [the name Dybek can be found in this area], or
that Jozefa and
Ignacy met [and got married] while in
Germany?);
c/ She talked to her 85 year-old
father, who remembered well the war period, expulsions of the Poles by
Germans from
this region and deportations to Germany - he
did not recall the name Dybek.
Her father was also arrested by the Germans in
January of 1943, incarcerated in the Cytadel in Zamosc and then
deported with many others for forced labour to
Germany. The Germans exerted a big pressure on these people to sign
the "Volkslist" (renounce the Polish and accept
the German citizenship) - many gave in and accepted! He did not and
returned home after the war .
d/ Absence of the name Dybek in the
roman-catholic parish books may also suggest that they were of the Orthodox
denomination - unfortunately these books
were destroyed during the war.
e/ Mrs Adamkiewicz will check with her
father whether he recalls any people or maried couples from Dubienka,
who did
not return home after the war or emigrated to
France.
4. On the 15, 16 and 17 of February Mr Wac visited
again the National Archives in Lublin, Łopaciński Regional Library in
Lublin and Majdanek (WWII Concentration Camp) Archives
in search of any arrest and deportation records - nothing was
found there. He will attend on March 6 and 7 a
conference of the National Regional Researchers in Zamosc and is
planning to use this opportunity to search the
Archives in the Zamosc Citadel (Rotunda).
5. To continue his search, Mr Wac needs from you
an authorization for search in more recent documents (after 1906).
1/ How did you discover that your
grandfather Ignacy "Soltys" was Jewish?
2/ Where did you find the birth date
for Ignacy - 2.X.1915?
3/ Do you want us to continue the
search and are you planning to send us an authorization for Mr Wac to
continue the search?
4/ I would suggest that you search in
the French Ministry of the Internal Affairs (or Immigration Office) -
they should have there the records from the time of immigration of
Stanislawa and Ignacy (and perhaps a record of his original name)?

Odpowiedzi na powyzsze pytania w liscie od Elly Leclerc
z dnia 4.III.2010:
1/ wiadomość od kuzynki (córki syna Ignacego) - Elly sądzi, że to
jest prawda. Dlatego też przypuszcza, że jego matka, Józefa Dybek byla
również Żydówką;
2/ data urodzenia Ignacego - 2.X.1915 pochodzi z
urzędu gminy (City Hall) we wsi, gdzie Ignacy i rodzina zamieszkiwali;
kuzynka (j.w.) podała jej inną datę, której dowiedziała się od
swojego ojca - 1.X.1914, Warszawa (?)
3/ pragnie kontynuowac poszukiwania w Polsce; nadeszle
upoważnienie, ale prosi o wzór;
4/ zacznie poszukiwania we francuskim Urzędzie Imigracyjnym - (za
ok. 3 tygodnie, obecnie przeprowadza sie z Lyonu do Bordeaux).
