July 27, 2000 - Warszawa-Nur-Siemiatycze-Drohiczyn-Konstantynów-£osice-Mordy-Siedlce

 | Thanks to the assistance of the sacristian and organist in the NUR Parish - Mr. Jan Malinowski - we were able to establish from the parish books that the inhabitants of the NUR area (village of Zebry-Laskowiec) bear the family name of WASZCZUK  . |  | The Parish priest (vicar) - Fr. Tadeusz Sliwowski - assisted us in contacting and visiting the Waszczuk family. | ||
 | In the village of Zebry-Laskowiec we met the brothers, Aleksander and Stanislaw Waszczuk and their families. Their uncle Franciszek (Frank) and his sister ? Bocian emigrated to the United States at the beginning of the 20th century. Frank arrived as a Wajszczuk (!?). |  | No doubt our visit was a nice surprise for the hosts. (In the picture - Aleksander and his wife Kazimiera). | ||
 | Aleksander's neighbour (across the fence) is his brother Stanislaw - here with his wife Agata. |  | In the afternoon we visited the town of Drohiczyn - the site of the Diocese and of the local Bishop. The cathedral against the late afternoon sky(!). | ||
 | Siemiatycze - Roman - Catholic Parish church of the Assumption of Holy Virgin Mary. |  | Siemiatycze - Orthodox church (in polish - Cerkiew) of the St.St. Apostols Peter and Paul. (Coexistence of different religions and denominations is quite common in this region). | ||
 | Sarnaki - Monument commemorating the capture during WWII by the soldiers of the underground Home Army (Armia Krajowa) of the prototype of the German V-2 rocket (which was then dismantled and sent in pieces to England). The insciption reads - "They saved London". |
